Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy. | The 2024 Primary Voters Guide is Here!
|
The March 2024 primary elections hold immense importance, as they often determine the winners of the general election in November. To ensure that all Austin area voters have access to unbiased information when making their voting decisions, we offer election information in English and Spanish on our interactive online guide, VOTE411.org.
Additionally, we have published our trusted, nonpartisan Voters Guide, which provides valuable insights into candidates and their positions. The League invites all candidates with opponents to participate, ensuring a fair and balanced representation of choices for voters. Look for printed copies of the Voters Guide at these locations.
The Voters Guide is also available on our website as a PDF in 4 languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and simple Chinese. You'll find even more resources there to help educate voters this election season.
Watch for a promotion of the Voters Guide in partnership with KLRU Austin PBS!
Help us spread the word! Like, post, and share the Voters Guide on social media.

Advocate for Austin Energy to Support Clean Energy
The Austin Energy Resource, Generation and Climate Protection Plan -- a 10-year roadmap for phasing out the use of fossil fuels at Austin Energy and replacing them with clean energy -- is getting an update. LWV Austin Area encourages members to message the Austin City Council and insist that Austin Energy stop using fossil fuels and support clean energy.
| Volunteer to be a Poll Monitor!
The Election Protection coalition is recruiting volunteers to help with the upcoming election! Nonpartisan volunteer poll monitors are needed to assist voters on Election Day if they have questions or if they encounter any problems voting. You can make a crucial difference for voters by connecting them with trained legal professionals and resources they need to safely and securely cast their ballots. Training is provided. Learn more and sign up here.
Sign up to be a Poll Worker!
Power the Polls is also recruiting volunteers! Poll workers are needed to ensure safe and secure elections, so sign up if you can and encourage others to do so. When you sign up through Power the Polls, you will be directed to your state or local jurisdiction’s official online application to apply. Learn more and sign up here. |

| | Amplify Austin Begins March 6!
Amplify Austin is fast approaching! The League of Women Voters Austin Area will be participating in I Live Here I Give Here's Amplify Austin Day, Central Texas’ community-wide day of giving.
LWVAA does so many amazing things: we create and translate the Voters Guide into Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese; we register people to vote throughout the community, including in our high schools and community colleges and at naturalization ceremonies; we provide civics education, candidate forums, and more.
But we can’t do it without your help. In order to keep providing these critical programs, all of which are run by a committed group of volunteers, we need your financial support.
Amplify Austin begins on Wednesday, March 6, at 6 p.m. and runs through Thursday, March 7, at 6 p.m. Can't wait to support the League? Schedule your donation early!

Join Us for An IRRESISTIBLE Evening for Democracy
On March 27, LWVAA, along with Leagues around the country, will host An IRRESISTIBLE Evening for Democracy. Join us at the Alamo South Lamar for a night of film, food, and fun, featuring a screening of Irresistible, Jon Stewart's 2020 political comedy that "takes on the big-money corruptions of American politics." (Variety). Enjoy the full “Alamo Experience” as we showcase the work of the League of Women Voters! Proceeds from this event -- sponsorships, ticket sales, and individual donations -- will fuel the work we do to ensure that voters in Austin and Travis County have the information they need to participate fully in our democracy.
Buy a ticket, make a donation, or become a sponsor and know that your attendance and generosity will register and inform more voters right here in the Austin area.
