The Weekly VOTER masthead

Welcome to LWVAA's Weekly VOTER

The Weekly VOTER is here to make sure everyone stays in the know about opportunities to empower voters and defend democracy in our community. Like what you see? Please share with your friends!

Three actions to support democracy this week.
  1. Bring one new voter or future voter to a PAWS to the Polls event.
  2. Verify your voter registration and help someone else do the same before fall election deadlines at votetravis.gov.
  3. Make your plans to attend a Juneteenth event (see below).
LWVUS wants to hear your Election Hero story. Tell us about an election worker who inspired you or what motivated you to become an election worker yourself.

🗳️ Join us in Pflugerville on Saturday for The Great Austin Pet Election  🐾

Warm up for the midterms with Paws to the Polls! Cast your vote using a real voting machine and experience democracy in a fun, low-pressure way.

Bring your friends, grandchildren, college students, new voters,  reluctant voters -- you name it. Do you have a child in your life you want to introduce to voting? Children 8 and up can use the machines with an adult's assistance. Free swag, candidate stump speeches, a community event, and one very important question: Are you voting dogs…or cats?
  • When? Saturday, June 13, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • Where? Travis County Community Center at Pflugerville, 15822 Foothill Farms Loop, Pflugerville, 78660
RSVP for the Pflugerville event here, and please share with friends and family in the Pflugerville area.

Franklin the Dog Candidate Poster
🐕 I’m Franklin. Yes, that Franklin.
The one you’ve seen at the park. The one who believes Austin should feel a little bigger, a little friendlier, and a lot more fun.
I’m running for Austin Pet Mayor because somewhere along the way, this city forgot something important: parks are for playing, sidewalks are for sharing, and communities work best when we trust each other.
I believe Austin thrives when we lead with openness, not overregulation.
This campaign isn’t just about dogs vs cats. It’s about what kind of city we want to build together.
So this summer, I’m asking for your vote.
Vote Franklin.
Let dogs be dogs.
Unleash Austin. 🐾
Gus the Cat Candidate Poster
🐈‍⬛ I’m Gus.
While others chase chaos, I believe leadership means staying steady.
Austin is growing fast. Our parks are crowded. Our sidewalks are messier. Our communities are changing. And when a city grows, freedom without structure stops feeling like freedom, it starts feeling like disorder.
I’m running for Austin Pet Mayor because I believe rules matter.
If you want calm over chaos, structure over scatter, and leadership that takes responsibility seriously, I’m asking for your vote.
Vote Gus.
For clean streets, clear rules, and calm leadership.
Order matters. 🐾

Empowering Voters

4.26.26 MACC

The MACC held its grand reopening -- and LWVAA volunteers were there!

LWV volunteers were proud to be part of the grand reopening of the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center last Saturday!!

The MACC has long been a place where culture, history, art, and community come together. It was inspiring to see families, artists, community leaders, and residents gather to celebrate this important Austin institution and the stories it helps preserve and share.

We were honored to be on site helping community members register to vote, update their voter registration, and learn about upcoming elections. Civic participation is strongest when people feel seen, welcomed, and connected to their community, and spaces like the MACC help make that possible.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, shared their stories, and helped celebrate this vibrant day of culture, heritage, and community.
