The League of Women Voters Austin Area’s Statement:
The League of Women Voters Austin Area strongly supports a joint primary for the 2024 Primary Election in March. The two major parties in Travis County have a decades-long tradition of entering into a joint Primary Election contract, and we see no reason to change that tradition now. A joint primary benefits all voters, makes voting accessible, and is cost-effective. It makes sense to voters. Travis County voters expect a well-run, safe, and secure joint primary, and Travis County Elections has been a leader in Texas at providing those things. Any changes to a system that has worked for decades and that voters have come to expect should be done with more care and consideration than are possible in the few months between now and the Primary Election. We are confident in the preparations of Travis County Elections for 2024 under the current system.
We will be monitoring this issue closely and will keep you all informed!
