7:00 - 9:00 p.m. - Ninth in the Rise for Freedom training series, where you‘ll learn about better media storytelling with a focus on broadcast and social media. On Thursday nights through June 5, online trainings will be held to bring people together, to help them grow and strengthen their local networks, and to get them ready to mobilize to demand democracy in this new challenging environment. 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. - This year, Texas lawmakers have grappled with questions that will help determine the future of this state. How do we fund our schools? Do we have enough water? Can our power grid support the industries of the future? Can we ensure that every Texan can afford a home? In this online event, teams from The Texas Tribune and Texas 2036 will come together to discuss what happened — and what‘s coming next. 7:00 p.m. (Zoom): Water infrastructure was one of LWVTX‘s priority issues of the 89th Texas Legislative Session. Learn more about Texas’ water infrastructure needs from an all-female panel of engineers from the TX section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Get an overview of the ASCE report card process, a deep dive into the water-related grades, and suggestions on how voters can help advocate for actions to raise the grades. Hosted by LWV Texas.

During this session, the presenters will look at how to discern media, discuss why independent and local media matters, and explore tools and tactics to read across sources and build strategies to strengthen your League’s connection to local news outlets. The Democracy in Your Hands series, occurring through the summer and early fall, will outline how Leagues can activate and mobilize their communities in this rapidly changing political environment and make a lasting impact.
